□ The Korea Population Health and Welfare Association (KoPHWA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korea Medical Institute (KMI) to promote healthy pregnancy, childbirth, and health management practices.

□ The MOU was established to strengthen the foundation for cooperation between the two organizations in promoting a healthy culture of pregnancy and childbirth, while sharing their expertise in healthcare services, maternal and child health, and population policy to respond to the declining birth rate and population decline and support the healthy lives of the public.

□ Under the MOU, KoPHWA and KMI will cooperate in the following areas: ▲promoting a healthy culture through the development of health care content to support healthy pregnancy and childbirth among men and women of reproductive age; ▲joint campaigns to address the declining birth rate and promote work-family balance; ▲exchange of information and materials in areas of mutual interest, including population and health-related statistics and research findings; and ▲other matters as mutually agreed upon by both organizations.

□ In particular, recognizing the growing interest among young people preparing for marriage and childbirth in health checkups, KoPHWA and KMI plan to actively promote and support the importance of health checkups and vaccinations.

□ According to data from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, more than 290,000 men and women aged 20 to 49 nationwide received financial support for fertility testing to help prepare for a healthy pregnancy in 2025.

□ In addition, the government expanded the existing program in 2025, which provided support once in a lifetime to couples preparing for pregnancy, to cover all men and women aged 20 to 49 regardless of marital status or number of children, with support available once at each stage of the life cycle, up to three times in total. This expansion has also increased interest among young people.

□ Kim Kyoung-Seon, President of the KoPHWA said, “Although the total fertility rate has rebounded to 0.88 as of the second quarter of 2026, continued attention across society to support for pregnancy and childbirth is needed to ensure that this trend does not remain temporary. We expect KoPHWA and KMI to work together to create greater synergy and help young people prepare for healthy pregnancy and childbirth.”
