□ On February 26, Dr. Kyung-sun Kim was elected as the 16th President of Korea Population Health and Welfare Association(KoPHWA).

□ The newly elected President Dr. Kyung-sun Kim holds a B.A. in English Language and Literature and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Seoul National University, an LL.M. from Indiana University (U.S.), and a Doctor of Juridical Science(S.J.D.) from Seoul National University School of Law. She passed the 35th Higher Civil Service Examination and served for 30 years at the Ministry of Employment and Labor. She became the first woman to serve as Director General for Planning and Coordination and later served as Vice Minister of Gender Equality and Family.

□ During her public service, President Dr. Kyung-sun Kim laid the foundation for current work–life balance policies by introducing paternity leave, reduced working hours for parents with young children, and family care leave. As Vice Minister of Gender Equality and Family, she contributed to expanding childbirth and childcare support policies, including improvements to the childcare support provider system and enhanced support for single-parent families. She has since been active as an expert in population policy.

□ President Dr. Kyung-sun Kim stated, “As our society has entered an ultra-low fertility era, with the total fertility rate falling below 1, we are now seeing early signs of a modest rebound. At this critical juncture, I feel a strong sense of responsibility in leading KoPHWA, an organization with a long and distinguished history.

○ She added, “The transformative changes in the industrial landscape driven by AI are also having a significant impact on population issues. I will respond strategically and do my utmost to help build a society where marriage, childbirth, and parenting are embraced as positive and fulfilling choices.”
